Quiniela matchday 5 is all Champions League: Tuesday brought four results and a Betis upset, and tonight Liverpool v Atlético at Anfield decides the exact-score pick. What is settled and what is still to play.

Matchday 5 of La Quiniela, Spain's state-run football pools, has no league football on it at all this week. All 15 fixtures come from the opening round of the Champions League league phase, spread across Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 September. Tuesday delivered four results and one genuine upset, and tonight at 21:00 CET comes the match that carries the most weight on the coupon: Liverpool v Atlético Madrid at Anfield, fixture number 15, the one where you have to call the exact score. Here is what is already settled on the quiniela jornada 5 and what is still to play for.

Quiniela jornada 5: Tuesday's four results

The first four fixtures on the coupon kicked off at 21:00 on Tuesday. Three favourites did their job and one did not: Lille, fancied by most previews, lost at home to Real Betis.

FixtureScoreSignGoals
Borussia Dortmund v Villarreal3-21Three for Dortmund, two for the Yellow Submarine
Porto v Manchester City0-22Erling Haaland brace
Lille v Betis2-32Ueda, Alexsandro; Bartra (2), Parrott
Real Madrid v Inter2-11Mbappé, Valverde; Carlos Augusto

Betis had the night of the round. Trailing 2-1 at the break after Ayase Ueda scored on 12 minutes and Alexsandro on 36, either side of a Marc Bartra header on 33, they turned it around in eight second-half minutes: Bartra again on 49 and Troy Parrott on 53, the same Parrott who had beaten Real Madrid with the only goal on Friday. Lille then lost Ethan Mbappé to a red card on 56. It was Betis's first Champions League match in 21 years, and they won it away from home.

At the Bernabéu, Real Madrid were two up inside half an hour through Kylian Mbappé on 14 and Federico Valverde on 23, then had to hang on after Carlos Augusto pulled one back on 77. Manchester City settled Porto with two Haaland goals, and Dortmund needed three to see off a Villarreal side that scored twice at the Signal Iduna Park.

Which quiniela jornada 5 matches are still to be played? Eleven of the fifteen: five on Wednesday 9 September (Barcelona v Feyenoord at 18:45 CET; PSG v Slovan Bratislava, Sporting v Galatasaray, Napoli v Arsenal and Liverpool v Atlético at 21:00) and six on Thursday 10 (Fenerbahçe v Roma and PSV v Shakhtar at 18:45; Como v Leipzig, Bayern v Bodø/Glimt, Manchester United v Sabah and Slavia Prague v Lens at 21:00). You can follow all of them on the matchday 5 page.

Liverpool v Atlético: the pleno al 15 is decided at Anfield

Fixture 15 on the coupon is the one where a plain 1, X or 2 is not enough: you need the exact number of goals each side scores. This week it falls to the tie with the richest recent history of the whole round. Liverpool and Atlético have met nine times, with four Liverpool wins, three for Atlético and two draws. Five of those were at Anfield, three of them won by the hosts. Atlético have lost their last three meetings with Liverpool, most recently a year ago almost to the day: on 17 September 2025 Liverpool won 3-2 at Anfield with a stoppage-time goal from Virgil van Dijk.

For the exact-score pick, one number matters more than any other: across those nine meetings, only once has either side kept a clean sheet. That was Liverpool's 2-0 win in November 2021. Every other game had goals at both ends.

Iraola's first Champions League night as a manager

Andoni Iraola has never managed a Champions League match. His only European experience as a coach is a Europa League campaign with AEK Larnaca in 2018-19. And fate has handed him Diego Simeone, the man who beat him in the 2012 Europa League final in Bucharest, when Iraola captained the Athletic Club side that lost 3-0 to Atlético. At Tuesday's press conference Iraola called it a special night, his first Champions League game at Anfield, against a strong opponent and a coach he said was doing an incredible job.

Liverpool arrive with one win from three Premier League games: 2-2 at Newcastle, 2-2 at home to Nottingham Forest, then a 2-0 win at Ipswich on Friday thanks to a first-half Alexander Isak brace. Atlético, by contrast, are coming off their first defeat of the season, a 3-0 loss at San Mamés on Saturday, after beating Sevilla 3-1 and Málaga 2-0 and drawing 2-2 with Villarreal. Alexander Sørloth remains out injured.

Barcelona v Feyenoord: first meeting in 52 years

Wednesday opens at 18:45 with Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou, and they bring the best numbers in the entire league phase: four wins from four in La Liga, 17 goals scored and just two conceded, after a 5-0 at Elche, a 2-0 over Athletic, a 5-2 over Rayo and Saturday's 5-0 at Mestalla. Feyenoord are unbeaten too, with three wins and two draws in the Eredivisie, the latest a 3-1 at NEC, under former Barcelona player Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Remarkably, Barcelona and Feyenoord have crossed paths only once in official competition, and you have to go back to the 1974-75 European Cup: a 0-0 draw in Rotterdam on 22 October 1974 and a 3-0 Barcelona win at home on 5 November. Fifty-two years later, they meet again.

How to read the Champions League coupon this week

With four signs already in the book, the margin for error on quiniela jornada 5 is concentrated in the eleven that remain. A few ways to organise your thinking without making anything up:

  • Tuesday produced a single surprise away win (Lille v Betis) and three favourites; the Champions League league phase tends to open with fewer draws than a La Liga weekend.
  • Barcelona, PSG, Bayern and Manchester United are all at home to opponents well below them on paper: these are the least controversial home wins on the coupon.
  • Napoli v Arsenal is the round's other draw candidate; Arsenal have conceded just once all season.
  • For the exact-score pick, the Liverpool v Atlético history points to goals at both ends: eight of the nine previous meetings had them.

If you play with friends, quiniPrats lets you set up a prediction league around this same Champions League round, log all 15 signs and see who nailed the exact score at Anfield once Slavia v Lens wraps things up on Thursday. The official coupon closed on Tuesday at 21:00, but bragging rights among mates have no deadline.
