Valencia Bottom of La Liga: One Goal in Five Games

One point, one goal and ten conceded in five games. Valencia are bottom of La Liga 2026-27 — and three of the four Valencian clubs were in the bottom four when matchday four closed.

Five games into La Liga 2026-27 and Valencia have one point, one goal and a place at the very bottom of the table. That is grim enough on its own. What makes it a genuine story rather than just a bad run is the company they are keeping: when matchday four closed, three of the four clubs from the Valencian Community were sitting in the bottom four of the Spanish top flight.

One point, one goal: Valencia's start to La Liga 2026-27

Carlos Corberán's numbers are brutally easy to read. Five matches, one draw, four defeats. The team's only goal of the season came away at Riazor, on a night that still ended 3-1 the wrong way. At Mestalla they have played three, scored none and conceded six. Valencia have never before reached the end of a fourth La Liga matchday with a single goal to their name.

5Sevilla – Valencia1-0

The 0-5 against Barcelona equalled Valencia's heaviest home defeat in any competition. Friday night at the Sánchez-Pizjuán brought a fourth straight loss, Juan Iglesias settling it in the 81st minute. Somewhere in the middle of all that, Valencia dropped to last place in Spain for the first time since January 2025 — twenty months of waiting for the floor to give way, and then it did.

Why are Valencia bottom of La Liga in 2026-27? One point from fifteen: a goalless draw with Celta followed by four consecutive defeats. With one goal scored and ten conceded they have the weakest attack in the division, and at the end of matchday four they also had the worst goal difference in the league at -8. You can follow the weekly picture in the 2026-27 season archive.

It isn't only Valencia: Valencian football is sinking

Here is the bigger picture. The Valencian Community sends four clubs to the Spanish top flight this season, and at the end of matchday four three of them were in the bottom four. Valencia, Elche and Villarreal had not won a single match between them. Only Levante, the newcomers of the group, were holding station in mid-table comfort.

Elche CF19th1
Villarreal CF17th2

Between them the four clubs had collected nine points from sixteen matches. For scale: Barcelona alone had twelve from twelve, a tally rounded off by that thrashing at Mestalla. The gap between the top and the bottom of the La Liga 2026-27 table has rarely opened this wide this early.

Villarreal are the genuine surprise. A club that has spent most of the last decade in Europe opened with two draws and two defeats, including a home loss to newly promoted Deportivo. Elche, back in the top flight after eight years away, drew a fixture list with no favours in it. And Valencia, quite simply, cannot find the goal.

Corberán in the spotlight — and the ultimatum the club denies

After the Barcelona thrashing, Spanish radio did what Spanish radio does. El Partidazo de COPE reported that Corberán had three matches to turn things around before the international break. Valencia pushed back: sources speaking to À Punt Esports said no such ultimatum existed, and the coach's representatives denied knowing of any deadline either. Chief executive Ron Gourlay had already spoken publicly in Corberán's defence and asked for stability.

We are hurting, but we are not sunk, and we are going to find the solutions to change the dynamic.
— — Carlos Corberán, Valencia CF head coach

The noise does not help. The 0-5 was watched from the stands with supporter protests aimed at the ownership, on Kiat Lim's first match at Mestalla as club president. When the table tightens and the mood turns at the same time, dugouts tend to be the first thing to move, whatever the official statements say.

What this means if you play the pools

A collapsing side is not a free win for whoever they play next. If anything it is the opposite: crisis clubs are the most expensive boxes on the coupon, because the market has already priced the misery in and there is no edge left. When half a region is stuck in the relegation places, the coupon fills up with short-priced favourites — and that is precisely where a pools entry is won or lost.

  1. A bottom club that cannot score does lower the chance of a home draw for their opponent — but it lowers the chance of an upset too. Don't sign home wins across the board.
  2. Four matchdays without a win builds pressure, and pressure produces ugly draws. Elche and Villarreal are natural candidates for the X.
  3. The only genuinely stable fact about Valencia is that they do not score. If you play exact scores or the Pleno al 15, that is the usable information.
  4. Check the team news before the deadline: the fixtures and status of Quiniela matchday 6 are all on one page.

Where can I see this week's fixtures and results? Every matchday page carries the full schedule, the prediction deadline and live results. Start with matchday 6 of the 2026-27 season and navigate from there.

What happens next

The calendar offers no mercy. Valencia have two fixtures left before the international break to change the narrative, and anything short of a win will make the conversation about the bench unavoidable. Elche travelled to San Mamés on Saturday and Villarreal close the round at La Cerámica against a Betis side riding high. If the weekend ends with all three still winless, Valencian football's start to La Liga 2026-27 stops being a bad statistic and becomes a structural problem.

In the meantime, there is a reasonably healthy way to turn all this chaos into something enjoyable: argue about it with your friends. If you fancy it, you can set up a prediction league with friends on quiniPrats and see who calls the exact week Valencia finally score again. Here is how it works — no rush, no pressure.
